Meet Mr. Green
Rhys Greene began roasting coffee beans in his Imperial Beach home to satisfy his own craving for a high quality cup of java. He enjoyed it so much that he began giving out samples to family and friends. One morning, while sipping a cup of a freshly roasted espresso with some friends somebody said to him, “If you roast more of this stuff, I’ll buy it from you.” And with that, Mr. Green’s Coffee Beans was born.
In addition to delighting folks with his deliciously roasted coffee beans, Rhys is co-founder and Artistic Director of the San Diego Black Ensemble Theater. He earned his BFA in acting from the California Institute of The Arts, after which he joined the creative arts team out of New York University, teaching conflict resolution to at risk youth. He was a teaching artist with various prominent theater companies and has done numerous productions in New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and San Diego.
Rhys toured up and down the western United States with Disney and other touring companies and currently teaches theater at Mar Vista High School in Imperial Beach. Rhys has also traveled all around the world, not only for vacations, but to participate in marathons, triathlons and Ironman competitions in locations such as: Bangkok, Hong Kong, Iceland, Canada, Mexico, and throughout the United States. Having a firsthand opportunity to sample local coffee roasting methods on every expedition, Rhys used those experiences to enhance and refine his own roasting technique.
